Glasgow Film Theatre / The Cosmo:
Purpose built cinema building in a modern art deco style opened in 1939 and designed by architect J. McKissack (1844-1940). McKissack specialised in cinema design and this building was the flagship cinema of the Singleton chain when opened. Originally named The Cosmo, the building was renamed the Glasgow Film Theatre when it reopened in 1974 after purchase and extensive internal modifications commissioned by new owners the Scottish Film Council. Previously the foyer had been remodelled by the architecture firm Gillespie, Kidd & Coia in 1968. The exterior of the building is original to McKissack's design
